... and now, a lesson in musket and rifle loading... you want details... go back to Sharon's 2nd page and scroll down to image #685... |
... three ways to carry a rifle on a 20 mile march... right shoulder, left shoulder, hunter's carry... |
... now a reloading demonstration... note that riflemen were required to have two front upper and two opposing front lower teeth in
order to bite off a piece of wadding, and, notice when the arm is loaded and the muzzle stuffer rod is being returned to its home position
that the rifleman uses his little finger to push the rod home so that if the arm should preignite during this step that all that would be
lost would be the little finger... not your whole hand... |
... and now... a firing demonstration...
... DETAILLLLL... PREPARE TO FIRE... (now there's a 20 second pause while the long arms are readied, meanwhile, the opposing army is
running towards you)... |
... [(re)load is completed, arms are shouldered]...
... DETAILLLLL... READY... AIM... |
... having fired the 1ST volley, there is another 20 seconds spent reloading a 2ND time and then the READY-AIM-FIRE... |
... having fired the 2ND volley, there is another 20 seconds spent reloading a 3RD time and then the READY-AIM-FIRE... |
... having fired three volleys the opposing army is in your face... AFIX BAYONETTS... |
