(1) Day 22 [18MAR17/FRI] Austin TX (actually, Chappell Hill)... photos by Rusl w/Nikon...
We start the day with a leisurely morning walk about the the farm house... about 30 years ago this 2 story house was cut up into 4 large pieces and
moved from Brenham, about 10 miles west of Chappell Hill, to it's present location on the farm; Pam called upon my carpentry experience
to put the house back together so you could not tell it was ever apart - a real challenge matching the old tongue and groove wood flooring, and,
redo the upstairs with a false ceiling built under the roof with what would appear to be a long exposed ridge beam, then extend the stair
handrails so nobody would fall down into the abyss, add a bedroom on the front side and a bathroom on the back side, add wood panneling and doors
to storage areas under the unused roof areas. The exposed beam, by the way, was being created in August, it was 100 degrees outside, 120
degrees on top of the scaffolding I was using to get close enough to the ceiling to work - yup - a real sweat box that was. Other things
downstairs were making closet spaces out of the air passages that the old house used to cool/heat the house (which now had central air
conditioning and heating installed) and on the front porch - all new floor boards and new posts and handrails. Oh, and there was a pump
house built with rafter tails cut in a manner similar to the house. The deer blind was built about 15 years later.
We'll start the walk-around upstairs where Sharon and I spent the night, then venture downstairs, and, outside... |
... paintings sprinkled throughout the farm house, the lake house, and the West Sacramento house that have "DOROTHY" printed in the
bottom right corner (or left corner) were painted by my mom... |
... soooooooo... there used to be a penny on the top-side of the stairway light fixture, Pam and Tom both recall that it used to be
there, but neither know when it ceased to be there... well not... do you reckon Pam or Tom will ever notice that a penny has re-appeared
on top-side of the stairway light fixture... |
