(1) Day 13 [09MAR16/WED] Wilson NC to Palm Coast by Rusl w/Nikon & Sharon w/Cannon...(75of450)... |
... can you tell we are rolling on a coastal plain???... |
... hey... there we go...ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM... |
... we were warned that the food at South of the Border was nothing to write home about, but,
Sharon needs to walk around some so we'll check the place out... |
(2) Day 13 [09MAR16/WED] "South of the Border"...(75of450)... |
... Pedro's South of the Border is on Interstate 95 and US Highway 301/501 in Dillon, South Carolina,
just south of Rowland, North Carolina... well... did go in to the Mexico Shop West and walk around for a while...
... it's a reeeeeally big shop... and... we found serape ponchos and serape blanket vests... |
... been in lots of import stores looking for these and not finding any and on-line looking for these
and prices are outrageous, like $40 to $220, for example... |
... and, the ones here were veeeeery reasonably priced here... got one of each...
South of the Border website: thesouthoftheborder.com...
unfortunately they do not have on-line shopping, soooooo, saddle up and head east Bucko... |
... South of the Border really is on the state line... |
... there's little palm trees over there that you can see in the edge of the woods...
they're all over the south; years ago, like 1950, my dad dug one or two up to take home and
plant... dont recall any after that... maybe it lived, maybe it dint... anyway... there's some
over there... really... |
... finally... there's some of those little palm trees that are obvious... |
(3) Day 13 [09MAR16/WED] "South of the Border"... I95 south...(75of450)... |
... been trying to catch a shot of the black swamp water in the woods in the Carolinas... finally... here's a dab... |
... a "special" motorcycle... |
... another "special" motorcycle... seeing more of these the closer we get to Daytona... |
... interesting red trees... |
... GOT ONE!... another "safe driving award" being issued... looks like he might be in double trouble... |
... what do you suppose is in this trailer?... |
(4) Day 13 [09MAR16/WED] rolling south on I95...(75of450)... |
... flyer/booklet picked up along the way at a rest area...
... and... at the rest area we see a lady walking her CAT!!!... on a leash... |
(5) Day 13 [09MAR16/WED] Rolling in to Palm Coast... |
... "special" bikes are everywhere... maybe they're "show bikes"... |
... seems like everyone has a trailer... reckon nobody rides more than 100 miles anymore?... |
... whoah... HOT DAMN TOMALEE... |
... HEY... WE'RE HERE!!!... |
... arrive at Quality Inn 4089mi/7:30pm...

(great breakfast area)
Stan & Leeda and Sharon and I spent an hour sitting on the couch/chairs in the lobby
while the manager worked on resolving Stan & Leeda's reservation... long story, but,
when the reservation made through Priceline.com needed to be changed it could not be
changed, only cancelled, so, cancelled and then called the hotel directly and made the
reservation, which, for whatever reason was executed the day of the change, so that NOW
there was no reservation... and since the hotel was completely booked it took a while to
verify all the not-yet-arrivals to find a no-show for them to assume the room for...
after an hour the manager suggested we go to dinner and he would keep working on finding
(creating) a vacancy for them... at dinner received a call that all was well...
great breakfast area:

REVIEW (not submitted, guest review invitations expire after 28 days):
Would have been: Clean, economical, most satisfactory.
Leisure trip / Couple / King Room - Non-Smoking / Stayed 4 nights
What could have been better? Wi-Fi workd but was slooooow
Most important to us is cleanliness - A+ on that, next in importance we
liked the price, the room was HUGE, king bed was great, and other things
we appreciated were nook w/couch, chair & desk, refrigerator, coffee pot,
breakfast included in room rate, cable TV, free Wi-Fi and location;
would stay here again.

Dinner by Bob Evans Restaurant:
Sharon had heard of this place before, said it was good, and,
it was within walking distance, it *WAS* good, and very reasonable prices,
would definately eat there again, or at any of their other locations.

breakfast at Days Inn the next morning:
(don't recall, dint record, but they had a LOT to choose from)
