From the Wednesday Jul 12 2017 Auburn Journal: A most civil war: The best riders from Northern and Southern California team up to battle it out at Fast Fridays By: Michael Kirby One of the longest running grudge matches in speedway racing will be renewed at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn. This will be the 26th annual North vs. South Speedway Challenge.Two teams, made up of the best speedway riders from Southern California and the best riders Northern California can offer, will challenge each other on the Fast Fridays dirt oval. Purse money is secondary to the trophy and, most importantly, bragging rights for another year. Each team pairs its riders, who race a series of heat races, scoring three points for a win, two points for second place, one point for third and zero for fourth. After the heat races, teams then place two pairs of riders in the final two main events, where the points increase. Substitutions and wild card insertions to the lineup keep the action unpredictable as lead changes can be quick. Riding for the North team this year are Bart Bast, Bryan Yarrow, Billy Janniro, Luke Becker, Tommy Hedden and Russell Green. Riding for the South are Charlie Venegas, Austin Novratil, Dillon Ruml, Broc Nicol, Aaron Fox and Gino Manzares. The South team is going to be looking to avenge last year's loss to the North and increase its standing in the overall tally, which stands at 16 wins for the North and nine wins for the South.
