George Washington Vanderbilt (1862 - 1914), the youngest son of William Henry Vanderbilt,
who was the eldest son of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt (who you probably heard of as
"Commodore Vanderbilt" who built his wealth in railroads and shipping),
created the self-sustaining European style Biltmore Estate a over a six year period. The
house officially opened on Christmas Eve, 1895.
Fredrick Law Olmsted, creater of New York's Central Park, designed the 20+ square mile
(125,000 acre) estate grounds.
Architect Richard Morris Hunt designed the Biltmore house, America's largest home, which
was modeled after three 16th century French chateaux; it has four acres of floor space,
252 rooms, including 33 bedrooms for family and guests, 43 bathrooms (none of which you
can use), and, 65 fireplaces. |

Would have been: Clean, economical, most satisfactory.
Leisure trip / Couple / King Room - Non-Smoking / Stayed 1 night
What could have been better? Wi-Fi workd but was slooooow
Most important to us is cleanliness - A+ on that, next in importance we
liked the price, the room was nice, king bed was great, and other things
we appreciated were walk-in shower, breakfast included in room
rate, chair, desk, cable TV, free Wi-Fi and location; would stay here again.
