THE RAZ REPORT:
Dudley's 34th Annual New Year's Day Run
"The Best Ride of the Year!"
~ January 1st, 2015 ~
Prepared for publication in the February 2014 issue of
Thunder Roads Magazine NorCal
~ UNDER CONSTRUCTION ~
The morning was thirty degrees and clear at 7am, yes, cold, but DRY,
when riders from Sacramento headed for Dudley Perkins Company Harley-Davidson (www.dpchd.com) at
333 Corey Way in South San Francisco (and, don't forget the Dudley Perkins Company Wharf Store at
2595 Taylor Street at North Point in San Francisco). We had a leisurely
ride to the dealership including a fifteen minute pit-stop at the
rest area on I-80 overlooking Vallejo. We crossed the bay bridge
then rode south on 101 to Exit 424 where we topped off the push water at what used to be a Chevron station. Our group
arrived at the dealership a little after 8am to find bikes already in the parking lot and lined up in the cul-de-sac.
We had arrived in plenty of time before the 9:30 departure time for the run to Nick's in Pacifica for breakfast.

The Dudley Perkins dealership in South San Francisco is an impressive dealership over a hundred years old that is filled with
the newest models, clothes, parts, accessories, and... and also... with bikes from the past and memorabilia, a virtual
museum in itself, a testament to over a century of providing sales and service to enthusiasts.
Although the dealership was "closed" in observance of New Years Day, Tom Perkins
and a skeleton crew had the service entrance open for riders who were provided ride maps, run pins, waivers to sign, coffee and
pastries, thank you very much Tom. Most riders arrived on Harleys, new and old,
stock and custom, and, some riders arrived on other makes, e.g., Vincent, Triumph, etc.
About 75 riders from all over northern California, San Jose, Peteluma, Sacramento, of course the San
Francisco Bay Area, and even from Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada - BRRRRRRRRRRR - formed a double line
from Utah Avenue all the way down Corey Way and into the dealership
parking lot. Members of Golden Gate HOG, the dealership's HOG chapter, blocked all the intersections between
the dealership and the freeway as the entire group of riders rode en-mass onto I-380 which was ridden to I-280
north to Westborough Boulevard to highway 1 south to Nick's Restaurant in Pacifica.

Nick's had a fine buffet breakfast prepared: orange juice, baskets of toast, muffins, grapes, melon, pineapple, strawberries,
bacon, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes, coffee, and, a full bar - nobody left hungry. GOOD JOB by Nick's!
The wife and I discovered Nick's some years back on the New Years Day Run and we have made it a regular eating stop at a
window table that overlooks the huge waves on that beach whenever we are in the area, great menu, great food (www.nicksrestaurant.net).

When everyone was seated, Tom Perkins wished everyone a happy new year and thanked all the friends and supporters from over a hundred years.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
After breakfast, Tom Perkins led the group from Nick's south on highway 1 to
Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero for a "new year's toast" (www.duartestavern.com).
Temperature now in the high 50's, what a GREAT DAY for a ride!

Directly we took Hwy 1 north back up the coast and caught 84 and east to Alice's Restaurant
(www.alicesrestaurant.com) at Skylonda, an outstanding biker weekend lunch stop.

There we had
a quick bite and shared our table with Bobby Strickland and friends. Seemed like we just ate - I was still stuffed
so I just sipped on a root beer while everyone else stuffed themselves some more.

With 2015 off to a great start, we took Skyline north to 92 east to Hayward to 880 to 80 to
Davis for gas where I had just have one question:
"a little while ago we were eating breakfast, and now it's almost dark, soooooooo, WHERE DID THE DAY GO???
We left the house at 645am and 300 miles later and 11 hours after we began we were back at 545pm.
Speaking for the group of us that went, we all had a great time and are looking forward to the 35th Annual New Years Day
Run in 2016 - "THE BEST RIDE OF THE YEAR!"
KNUCKLEHEADS FOREVER!
