The Modified Motorcycle Association (MMA) Motorcycle Swap Meet has always been one of northern California's largest swap meets drawing sellers and buyers from near and far. Sunday, December 7th (a.k.a. "Pearl Harbor Day") the MMA hosted the annual Motorcycle Swap Meet at the Dixon May Fair Grounds, in... duh... Dixon. This swap meet has been going on for years, and, in years past was held at the Cow Palace, an indoor arena, in Daly City situated on the city's border with neighboring San Francisco, however rising costs have ruled the Cow Palace out. Like the current swap meet, swap meets at the Cow Palace were held rain or shine, and sometimes there was shine and sometimes there was rain. Mother Nature smiled on the event this year; there had been days of rain preceding this event, and although the sky was gray and mostly overcast on the 7th, the sky did NOT fall. and, the "inside" quarters at the Dixon May Fair Grounds would have been a really tight squeeze had there been rain, however, in the absence of the wet stuff, many sellers took advantage of the cool dry weather to set up outside. I missed a lot of the show bikes that were usually at the Cow Palace, and, the entertainment, e.g., one year there was an amateur stunt bike rider competition. Talking with Gus Alvarez, the MMA's Vice President/Chief Operations Officer (and he is also an officer of equal indignity), he said he liked that idea and would work on having some other attractions for attendees, perhaps... well... wait and see... So, if you should find yourself in need of some parts around Thanksgiving time next year for that project bike on your workbench, keep this swap meet in mind - it's a good'n.
