Gibson House in Woodland will soon be recognized as a historic building with the dedication of a plaque.
The John A. Sutter 1841 E Clampus Vitus, an organization that works to
preserve western history, will be dedicating the plaque on Saturday at
about 9:45 a.m. at 512 Gibson Road in Woodland. "We are
known for plaquing various sites throughout the west commemorating
locations of historical interest," said Bob Farrell of John A. Sutter
1841. "Or as we put it, preserving western history one plaque at a
time."

Farrell has been working with David Flory, the
executive director for the Yolo County Historical Museum and Gibson
House, as well as with Jennifer Santos with Parks and Recreation to make
the plaque dedication a reality.
The 24-inch by 14-inch
brass plaque is set in a concrete monument and is inscribed with words
about William Byas Gibson and his role in Yolo County agriculture. The
Gibson House has more than 165 years of history in and surrounding this
location.
The Gibson House was originally a small wooden
homestead house, built somewhere around 1849, and in 1857 William Gibson
purchased it. He married Mary Isabelle Cook and together they raised a
family and eventually built up the original structure into what it is
today.
