Below, yymmdd 3 First Children of Joshua P Waggoner: John, Ida, Ader [1200dpi]
note: front view of plate was virtually impossible to make any image out, however, rear of plate does show something, so,
also scanned the back and flipped it horizontally to privide a view from the front; however note on back of envelopr had
the children listed in reverse(?) order so perhaps the tin plate was in the paper frame backwards, so, discarded the flipped
image and kept the back as originally scanned...

Below right, USAT Henry Gibbins: delivered to the Army Transportation Service 27 February 1943 as Henry Gibbins and served as a US Army as a troop transport during World War II.
Following the war, the Henry Gibbins was refitted as a "war brides ship," a baby passenger liner. Three decks of cabins, lounges, two formal staircases, a formal dining room
and substantial plumbing upgrades were installed, and the Army operated her to transport American military personnel and their dependents on a route between Bremerhaven and
the US East Coast until she was transferred to the U.S. Navy in 1950.

I remember sitting on "Grandma Waggoner's" [my Great Grandma Waggoner] front porch steps and coloring mainly using my favorite two colors, black and red. Also while
visiting her we did jigsaw puzzles and one day she gave me a puzzle with horses titled "Wild Horse Wranglers" - I was a happy kid that day - I liked that puzzle a lot... still do
- still have that puzzle (and the box it came in), it's framed and hanging on the wall behind me as I type these notes on the computer, it's up for grabs by any of
the kids in case any one of them have any sentimental affinity for it or just like horses... see below...

Below, 24JUN48 "Penny & Trailer with Russ and his 'Doodle Doo' 6/24/48 Pittsburg 35mmR" (when we returned from Germany dad went back to Oklahoma University in Norman Oklahoma as he
lacked one semester of graduating with a degree in electrical engineering (while at O.U., we lived in a trailer), and because of his good grades, Westinghouse Electric Corporation recruited him as soon as he graduated, they
told him he could go into engineering research and development in Pittsburg or Sales in Saint Louis and he should experience both in order to decide which he would prefer for a career so to Pittsburg we went
for a little while and then to Saint Louis; in Saint Louis dad's boss told him he would not be near as happy sitting at a desk all day in engineering R&D as he would be in sales
where he would be given a company car and he would need to go out and call on customers, take them to dinner, take them golfing, hunting, fishing, etc. - although Saint Louis was a dirty city in those days (his white
shirts were gray by the time he got home due to all the smoke in the air from burning coal for heat)... dad chose sales and was given a position in the Houston office - the rest is history) [600dpi]

Below, ddAPR51: Russ' (front row, 4th from right) kindergarten class; a "mid-termer" because my birthday was a couple days after school started (in those days there
were "mid-term" students who would do the 1st half of a grade in the spring semester and the 2nd half after summer vacation in the fall semester); anyway, laws in
Oklahoma were different and when dad was called back into the service and we moved to Lawton Oklahoma in 1951, well, when school started I was put right on into 1st
grade - smart kid that I was - skipping a half a grade! - thus ending my "mid-termer" status, and when I re-entered grade school in Texas in the fall of 1952 I was
(mistakenly) put into 1st semester of 3rd grade, and was doing fine and might have gotten away with skipping a grade except when given a math test which asked me to
print all the numbers between 1 and 200... that's a lot of numbers... I took a short cut (... 118, 119, 200 (done!!!)) which gave the teacher cause to question why
a kid in her class didn't know all those numbers and her curiosity resulted in her discovering that I was supposed to be in 2nd grade... oh well... (this would have
been at our house at 2421 Bartlett Street in Houston where we lived when dad was working as a sales engineer for Westinghouse) [600dpi]

Below, 28SEP51 "9-28-51 This is our home Cy & Louise Holder" [600dpi] (looking at the north side of the house, window above the porch is in the
north bedroom which had blue wallpaper with shiny silver stars and a double bed and a tall dresser (wih a revolver wrapped up in the bottom drawer),
windows on the north east corner of the house were grandpa and grandma's bedroom, the south window on the east side of the house is in the family room
which had a couple wicker rockers and floor lamp and a card table with a wood Chinese checkers board we played many a game on,
the upstairs window on the east side of the house is in the east bedroom which had 2 double beds and 2 twin beds with horse hair mattresses and notice
that the ceiling in that room is slanted down below the top of the window, notice the 'add on' room that runs the length of the west side of the house
which was a living room on the north end with a couch and chair and coffee table and dining room on the south end with looong dining table and a cheffaneur
and a tall uprignt piano, and lastly, you can see the garage just south of the house) (

however, if this was actually 1953 then this would have been in the 9615 Chatfield house) (the shirt dad is wearing is flannel, black, red, grey, white,
and, he wore it for years and eventually it was relegated to a shirt he wore when working in the garage or in the yard)
